If you have to read ECG’s as part of your patient assessment, you will be aware that this skill can reveal to you a number of physiological changes that may not be evident in other elements of the assessment process. To the experienced eye, the ECG is an invaluable diagnostic tool for identifying ischaemia, infarction, conduction defects, arrhythmia and other structural changes. The ECG is an essential skill for the assessment of cardiovascular disease. Do you feel that your skills in ECG interpretation could be improved, or would you like to extend your current understanding of ECG analysis? The ECG Interpretation Workshop is a comprehensive two day course that will reinforce your existing skills and then develop new knowledge so that you will take your ECG interpretation to a higher level. The course is intended for anyone who records and interprets ECG’s. Even if you feel that your knowledge is limited, the content of the course takes you from the core concepts of electrophysiology through to the practical application of these theories. A review of the relevant anatomy and physiology is presented to give you a solid foundation upon which the remainder of the course is built. Throughout the two days you will be given plenty of opportunity to practice the new skills that you have learnt and will relate the findings to clinical scenarios. The course is presented in a lively and engaging manner to ensure that you develop your skills and retain what you have learnt. The facilitator of this course is Andrew Sargent who has co-authored the best selling “ECG Workbook”. He is also a Senior Lecturer with many years of clinical experience in cardiology and coronary care. He has run this course for many healthcare providers throughout the UK and Ireland and always receives excellent evaluations. We are confident that you will find this to be the best ECG course available anywhere. Learning outcomes By the end of this two day course, you will be able to: Ø Understand the essential concepts of the ECG Ø Relate the ECG features to the relevant physiological processes Ø Recognise the most common ECG abnormalities Ø Develop reasoning skill that will enable you to explain some of the less commonly observed ECG abnormalities Ø Recognise ischaemia, infarction, hypertrophy, bundle branch block, SVT and AV block on a selection of rhythm strips and ECG’s Ø Identify potential pathways of care for the person presenting with a variety of ECG changes. Content Anatomy and physiology of the heart as it relates to the ECG Cardiac conduction system Core concepts of electrophysiology The ‘normal’ ECG 12 lead ECG concepts Cardiac Axis R wave progression & horizontal axis Lead placement Accurate recording concepts Components of the ECG complex Sinus rhythm/ bradycardia/ tachycardia Atrial arrhythmias Ectopy Ventricular arrhythmias VT and SVT with aberrancy AV blocks Bundle branch blocks Ischaemia and infarction ST segment abnormalities T wave abnormalities QT analysis Hypertrophy and strain patterns Clinical scenarios Practice ECG’s MCQ
